Introduction

The 7th International Conference on Contemporary Issues in Economics, Management and Business (7th CIEMB 2024) will be joinly organized by National Economics University (NEU) and Australian National University (ANU) in Hanoi, Vietnam. The aim of the conference is to create a forum for scholars from different academic fields of economics, business and management to exchange and present their research. The conference will provide a platform for debates on contemporary issues of aforementioned fields, supporting strategies to stimulate sustainable worldwide growth and development.

Prof. Paul Burke, Australian National University, Australia

Prof. Paul Burke

Prof. Paul Burke is Head of the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics and Deputy Director of the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University. His research is in energy and environmental economics, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific. He leads the Energy Economics and Policy research cluster of the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions. He is on the Executive Committee for the Australasian Development Economics Workshop.

Prof. Paul Burke has published in journals including the American Economic Journal, Macroeconomics, Economic Inquiry, Nature Geoscience, Nature Climate Change, Energy, and Global Environmental Change. His ongoing research topics include electric vehicle adoption, residential electrification, small hydropower in Indonesia, and thermal coal phase-out in South-East Asia.

 

Prof. Sushanta Kumar Mallick, Queen Mary University of London, the UK

Prof. Sushanta Kumar Mallick

Sushanta Mallick is a Professor of International Finance at the School of Business and Management, Queen Mary University of London, UK. Since January 2015, he has been the Co-editor-in-Chief of ‘Economic Modelling’ – a leading 40-year-old scholarly journal published by Elsevier. He also acts as a co-editor of ‘Economic Analysis and Policy’ (a 54-year-old journal of ‘the Economic Society of Australia’).

He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Warwick, UK. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, focused on issues in the areas of international economics, banking & finance, and innovation & development. As per IDEAS/RePEc ranking, he is among the top 5% economists. He has over 6000 google scholar citations with a h-index of 45. His work has been published in journals such as: British Journal of Management, Research Policy, Economic Theory, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Industrial Relations, British Journal of Industrial Relations, Journal of Banking & Finance, Oxford Bulletin of Economics & Statistics, IMF Economic Review, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Journal of International Money and Finance, World Development, and many others.

Dr. Peter J. Morgan, ADB Institute

Dr. Peter J. Morgan

Peter Morgan joined the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) as a senior consultant for research in December 2008 and currently also serves as Advisor to the Dean. He earned his MA and PhD in economics from Yale University. He previously served as ADBI’s Vice-Chair of Research until March 2022. He also worked in Hong Kong, China as Chief Asia Economist for HSBC where he was responsible for macroeconomic analysis and forecasting for Asia. Before that, he was Chief Japan Economist for HSBC and held comparable positions at Merrill Lynch, Barclays de Zoete Wedd, and Jardine Fleming. Prior to entering the financial industry, he worked as a consultant for Meta Systems Inc in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States specializing in energy and environmental areas, including energy policy issues in Asian countries.

His research focuses are macroeconomic policy and financial sector regulation, reform, financial development, financial inclusion, fintech, financial literacy, and financial education. His recent publications include Fintech and Financial Inclusion in Southeast Asia and India and Impacts of COVID-19 on Households in ASEAN Countries and Their Implications for Human Capital Development.

Dr. Dorsati Madani, The World Bank in Vietnam

Dr. Dorsati Madani

Ms. Madani has over 20 years of experience at the World Bank, spanning three continents and over a dozen countries. Her initial entry to the World Bank was as an International Trade Economist, where she wrote a seminal paper on export processing zones. International trade and industrial zone topics remain of great interest to her. She has since worked as a country economist with governments in various regions including Africa, the Middle East, Central America and the Caribbean, Europe and Central Asia and now Vietnam. Her current focus is on growth and growth dynamics and macroeconomic policies (fiscal and monetary). In fiscal policy, she has worked on revenue and expenditure policies and public finance management.
Ms. Madani has a Ph.D in Economics from the University of California, Davis.

Associate Professor Anna Kwek, Griffiths University, Australia

Associate Professor Anna Kwek

Associate Professor Anna Kwek is the Director (International) of Griffith Business School. A/Professor Kwek previously served as the Academic Director for the Griffith Business School Hong Kong Program from 2016 to 2019 and as Deputy Director (International) at Griffith Business School from 2020 to 2021. She has extensive experience in transnational education and is currently responsible for developing strategic partnerships and student recruitment for the Griffith Business School.

A/Professor Kwek’s research expertise is in diasporic tourism, and in particular, explores how geopolitical imperatives of soft power and economic imperatives concurrently mediate and motivate the consumption and supply of group tour experiences. Her expert knowledge and market insight in tourism management are strongly supported by her work experience in the tourism and hospitality industries. Her other research interests include international student travel and the pedagogy of internationalisation of higher education.

 

Prof. Tom Baum, University of Strathclyde, the UK

Prof. Tom Baum

Professor of Tourism Employment Department of Work, Employment and Organisation Strathclyde Business School, University of Strathclyde, 199 Cathedral St, Glasgow G4 0QU.

Tom Baum is a Professor of Tourism Employment and formerly Head of the Department of Work, Employment and Organisation (2014-2019) in the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. He is internationally recognized as a thought leader in the field of tourism work and employment, including workforce planning, recruitment, labour mobility and migration.  He has taught internationally and written extensively in the area of human resource management and currently leads and teaches on the Leading Sustainable Organisations module for the Strathclyde MBA. Tom trained in education and pedagogy and holds BA (Hons) and MA degrees in Education from the University of Wales, an MPhil in Educational Development from Nottingham Trent University and holds two doctorates (PhD and DLitt) in tourism/ hospitality employment policy studies from the University of Strathclyde. He has worked in about 50 countries as researcher, teacher and consultant and has completed projects funded by key international agencies including COMCEC, the World Bank, ILO, UNICEF, UNWTO, UNDP, EU and ADB. Tom has supervised about 40 PhD students to completion and examined over 100 doctoral theses. He has published over 200 academic papers in scientific journals and is author/ editor of 12 books..
